I'm Robbyn. I started piano lessons at age 9 and was choir accompanist for my High School choir, which I also sang in when not playing. Jeff says I should note that as a teenager I won state competitions in vocal categories and was active in church music ministry.
My first recordings were produced in 1984 with Jeff and it was obvious even then that we would make wonderful music together. Shortly after we were married in 1987, I began studying MIDI sequencing with keyboards to produce music background tracks for Jeff. This led to lending sequencing knowledge to several recording projects that play nationally on the radio to this day. I also "manned" the audio console, engineering for Jeff when he would sing around the country. In 1995, we officially registered the studio with the name Robbyn's Studio. The name was later changed to Sound Amazing. Much of my production work is for Bible Broadcasting Network. Among other programs, I have been privileged to produce Words of Praise, Tinyburg Tales, Bit of Heaven, Conference Pulpit, Daily Bible Reading and Christian Classics. These programs are heard on over 150 stations around the US. My interests include singing in the choir at TriCity Baptist Church and home-schooling our three children. I'm also a football fan and enjoy reading and live music. Jeff started trumpet lessons in elementary school and played all the way through collegiate performances across the country with Word of Life. He played in award winning concert and marching bands along with singing in multiple choirs in the massive high school we went to. He was also in charge of audio for the high school productions and helped with audio at his church. All through high school, he was mentored at Mars Hill Broadcasting in Syracuse, NY where he practiced broadcast quality production and learned analog multi-track recording.
Following high school, he attended Word of Life Bible Institute where he played trumpet, ran audio (FOH A1) on the long-running Passion Play tour and wound up as lead soloist for the Word of Life Collegians on a coast to coast tour called America, I Still Can Hear Your Song. Stops included venues like the Philadelphia Convention Center and Soldiers and Sailors Auditorium next to the White House in Washington DC. During this time he was also a judge for a national teen music competition. After Word of Life, he went on to become Operations Manager of Mars Hill Broadcasting at age 19, overseeing programming details for stations in about 15 cities. During this time he studied digital circuit design at a local community college where his 4.0 work was selected by the school in a presentation for increased academic accreditation. This is when people began regularly coming to him to track and mix their recordings. He also had opportunity to provide audio equipment and mixing for well known Christian musicians like Bill Pierce and Steve Green while in Syracuse. But Jeff's heart was in reaching the entire world with the gospel so in 1990, we followed the Lord's call and he accepted a satellite announcing position with Bible Broadcasting Network, then in Chesapeake, VA. For two years he shared on the air and recorded music that was played on BBN along with tracking and mixing projects for local musicians in Virginia. In 1992, he was asked to manage a new radio station in San Antonio where he could use his singing ability more. And use it he did, averaging about 120 singing engagements a year in area churches! Yes, we hauled a custom PA system around in a trailer and set it up for every one of them because the sound had to be right. The schedule was very tight but he still managed to squeeze in numerous recording projects with local musicians. He just can't help himself! In 1995, we moved to Charlotte, where BBN headquarters now calls home, and Jeff set up a recording studio so I could do production work for BBN. As usual, once folks started hearing the recordings, word got out about the studio and people began to request recording time. Through the years we have been privileged to work with dozens of local clients like Ambassador Baptist College and both the Charlotte Philharmonic and Charlotte Symphony Orchestras. He has also worked on numerous remote projects, including concert band sessions for Moody Bible Institute at Moody Church in Chicago and broadcast audio work for the National Day of Prayer in Washington DC and New York City in recent years. Audio isn't merely a pastime for Jeff. He approaches it the way a serious artist would approach painting or sculpting. The craft bubbles out of him from some deep and bottomless well. Scarcely a day passes that he's not studying technical details or focusing on ways to improve his skills or finding ways to bring excellence to the day's project. This web site is about the recording studio so I've focused on that here but Jeff spends most of his time at BBN where he has been in ministry all these years. His primary responsibility is to oversee computer operations for the world-wide network. He also directs the choir and manages the media ministry at TriCity Baptist Church of Huntersville, still sings in other churches around the country, and is an audio/technical advisor to numerous churches, colleges and radio stations.
